About the course
Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio, is the first course in the U.S. designed, built, and owned by an African American. William "Bill" Powell hand-built the nine-hole course after returning from WWII, opening it to all golfers in 1948; a second nine followed in 1978. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, "America's Course" remains a living tribute to the Powell family's perseverance and legacy in golf.
